About this place
When the evening calls for a punch of chili and a deep, simmering broth, Kankanmen in Adachi Ward's Senju neighborhood provides a satisfying retreat. Focused around noodle dishes alongside an extensive Korean menu, the shop built its reputation on robust bowls like yukgaejang noodles and galbi noodles. The yukgaejang broth layers beef tail richness with vegetable sweetness and direct heat, yielding a fiery bowl popular with late-night drinkers looking to round off their night.
A distinctive feature of the shop is selecting your preferred noodles at ordering. Choices include standard Chinese-style ramen noodles, thin Korean cold-style noodles, and udon, letting you adjust chew and how readily the broth clings. Rich galbi noodles—braised beef fat melding with vegetables—pair naturally with classic ramen noodles, while those seeking a lighter bite can opt for the thin variety.
The broth repertoire extends beyond spicy soups to include salt-broth gomtang made from oxtail, soy-sauce-seasoned mandu noodle soup with dumplings, and dakgaejang noodle soup featuring chicken. Many soups can also be ordered as gukbap over rice when grain feels more fitting than noodles.
While awaiting your bowl or settling in for drinks, the kitchen provides boiled pork slices (mushibuta), jeon pancakes, garlic-accented munchi salad, and assorted kimchis. Beer, makgeolli, and fruit sours flow freely, suiting solo diners slurping quickly at the counter on the 1 floor as well as small groups sharing an izakaya spread. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 17:00 to 23:00, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Payment is cash only.
